Fitzroy Island Day Trips
Fitzroy Island off the coast of Cairns was once part of the mainland, before being separated by rising waters. Over time a fringing coral reef surrounded the island providing a sheltered home for a variety of fish and coral species, and inherently creating an ideal, gorgeous tourist attraction in the process! While, due to its protected nature due to its conservation listing, much of the island is off-limits to visitors, our tours focus on the sheltered Western side of the island where the resort, jetty and best snorkelling areas can be found.
Snorkelling is a joy to participate in on Fitzroy Island, with a large fringing reef running down to the jetty, an excellent quality and range of coral and an excellent variety of fish to view. You can truly 'find Nemo' here as the now-famous Clownfish are in abundance, as well as other creates such as parrot fish and giant sea turtles which regularly frequent the bay.
Walking trails are on offer to take in the Northern end of the island, with a lighthouse located on the North-West point, and a track to the island's peak which offers stunning 360 degree views over the surrounding reefs and out to the mainland. A short trip from the resort to nearby Nudey Beach can be made for relaxation opportunities as well. The day tour offers all you could want from a brief trip to such an exotic locale!
